Philip Sutton BSc (Hons) Osteopathy is registered with the General Osteopatic Council (GOsC). This is a statutory body providing the code of conduct and ethics to which all Osteopaths adhere. It is now mandatory for all Osteopaths to be a member of the GOsC.
WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?
Osteopathy is a system of healing which focuses on the Musculoskeletal system. Treatment is carried out using Osteopaths hands (manual therapy). It is by this method that a wide range of conditions can be treated and to people of all ages. Osteopathy works not just at the condition causing the pain but at the whole postural adaptation seeking to alleviate factors that might be relevant in maintaining such
a condition.

VISITING AN OSTEOPATH
On your first consultation a full case history will be taken and you will be given an examination.
You will normally be asked to remove some of your clothing and carry out simple movements so that the Osteopath can assess your spine and posture.
WHAT ABOUT TREATMENT?
Osteopaths use their hands to carry out treatment with various techniques. These include stretching the muscles, connective tissue, rhythmic joint movements and manipulation. All of these aim to restore function, movement and alleviate pain.
A session may take up to 45mins depending on the patient presentation and the
type of treatment required.
